About The Sensitive Shutter
Hi, my name is Shane Carey from The Sensitive Shutter and I
enjoy acknowledging individuality and expression via photography and narrative
conversations. In my history of youth work, counselling, nature based programs,
and narrative therapy, the camera has never been far out of reach.
I decided to pursue photojournalism in 2014 at Latrobe University under the guidance of Julie Millowick so I could more intuitively work towards successful human interactions and images or stories which reflect that sincere sharing.
It is my wish to dig deeper with photography, education, story-work, and human engagement, with a sensitive and compassionate approach. I love human expression, candid quirky moments, gritty beautiful relationships, and opening up to the power of vulnerability.
I am always willing to learn more. I changed a well-known saying to take the pressure off perfection, instead believing that practice makes progress.

I will continue to pursue the human experience in my photography; undertaking projects with people who would like to give voice to their experience. This life work may be undertaken in obvious fringe environments but also in the ordinary everyday human world. I believe that evidence of genuine humanity and connection can be found among the busy traffic anywhere, anytime.

Hi Shane,
We got the photos a few days ago and have been loving going through them! I’m not joking when I say, we laughed, we cried, you took us on an awesome adventure. Thank you! They are fabulous! I just feel bad that you had to look at that many photos of our ugly mugs... and kissing too- ohhh gross! Ha ha ha. Thank you Shane. I just wrote a short recommendation below. I didn’t add how you came the night before and shot the rehearsal and pre-party dinner- some of those photos literally took our breath away. And that having you there added such a great vibe to the weekend- just because you’re an awesome dude... Let alone because you were taking amazing photos the whole time! So here it is... thank you. Shane went above and beyond to capture beautiful moments on our wedding day. We cannot recommend him highly enough! The photos of our families are absolutely lovely, with perfect lighting and positioning so everyone looks great. Opportunities to get photographed together don’t come up all that regularly with our families so we really appreciated the time he took to get such special photos that we will always treasure. Shane's forte however, and the reason we asked him to be our photographer is his ability to capture people candidly in their natural state. Shane has a skill of capturing really special moments. The lighting and focus in the shots sets him above the average photographer and ultimately has given us beautiful memories of our wedding that we will be able to look at and share with people for years to come. We are just so happy with all our beautiful photos! Shane, we cannot thank you enough. |
